Seven major guesses
The
limitations of Sense Knowledge are very obvious.
 | There are certain barriers
that cannot be crossed.
|
 | There are certain lands that
cannot be explored by Sense Knowledge.
|
But
a strange freak of Sense Knowledge is that when these boundaries of its ability
are reached, it either turns philosophical, metaphysical, or speculative.
I
want you to think of seven major guesses or speculations of Sense
Knowledge.
First,
Sense Knowledge does not know the origin of Creation or of Matter. This lack
of knowledge chagrins and humiliates Sense Knowledge and so it becomes bold
in speculation. The guesses in regard to Creation of the Universe and of
Matter have filled volumes of books. They do not know how Matter came into
being, or when, or why. Sense Knowledge has always denied a personal God;
and because it has no God, it has no Creator, so Matter must create itself.
- The second major guess is the
Origin of Life. This has been a painful subject to the speculative
scientists. The theories of the Origin of Life fill many volumes and
textbooks, but no one with only Sense Knowledge knows where Life began.
Every guess, so far, has been laid aside for another, and today they are as
far from absolute knowledge as they were when
Darwin
wrote the "Origin of Species."
- Third, Sense Knowledge does
not know
- the origin of Motion,
- or when the Stellar heavens
first began their revolutions. If they could discover the Origin of Life,
they could discover the Origin of Motion.
- Fourth, they have never
discovered the origin of the government of the universe. Here is a vast
universe made tip of constellations of stars and suns, each revolving in its
realm and the entire mass revolving around a great center, and yet no one
has been able to discover the Author and the Governor of these heavenly
bodies.
- Fifth, they never have been
able to discover the Origin of man. Their speculations and their theories
have destroyed the faith of millions and wrecked the morals of two
generations. There is not one of them that is courageous enough to admit
that Sense Knowledge cannot discover the Origin of man. They do not know
- the Reason for man,
- nor man's destiny. Man is
here. Sense Knowledge can only recognize what it sees and hears and feels.
- Sixth, Sense Knowledge does
not know the Origin of sin. Some have even gone so far as to deny its
existence; but its persistence, its evidence of organization staggers the
thinking man. A denial does not destroy a fact. Yet Sense Knowledge has no
ability
- to tell where it came from,
- to point to a cure or
- a Redemption from its fatal
effects.
- Seventh, Sense Knowledge
has no conception of the origin of death, the why of death, or what death
is. Sense Knowledge turns poet or becomes metaphysical in the presence of
this unknown enemy that hounds us from the cradle to the faltering steps of
old age. Sense Knowledge may become lyrical in its presence, but it has no
solution. We have seen the limitations of Sense Knowledge. These limitations
are limitations that are sometimes vital to man's happiness. Revelation
Knowledge is needed to fill the gaps of Sense Knowledge.
