Philippians 4:19 (ASV)

the subject for today is:

Where God guides, He provides

Dear Friends,

God had impressed Sasha with the financial needs of the worldwide mission field.  She had given occasionally in the past, but she suddenly saw the necessity of giving on a regular basis. The amount which she felt led to give was beyond her budget, but she gladly gave it anyway.

During a short missionary trip to Haiti the following January, Sasha felt called of the Lord to become a nurse on the mission field.  At first, all the necessary plans quickly fell into place. In preparation, she quit her job and enrolled full time in school. One night, less than two weeks before her first day of class, she discovered she needed $400 within three days to meet school expenses.

Considering the things she would have to give up to cover the expenses and make a necessary lifestyle change, she felt bewildered and angry. "Why would the Lord provide so richly up to a point, then allow me to fail before I actually start?" she wondered.

Weighted down with sadness, she didn't feel like praying.

"But I knew I had to give this anger to God," she says. "I confessed my attitude, asking Him to change it.  And I thanked Him for being the Lord who loves and remains in control, even when I can't feel it."

God did change Sasha's attitude, and during work the next day a friend approached her desk and handed her a card. A Christian less than six months, the friend had written the words, "God spoke to me concerning you last night," and enclosed a check for $375.

"Not even twenty-four hours had passed since I'd discovered my financial need," Sasha says. "And here was Christ's speedy answer. Now, two years later, I cannot recall a single situation in which He hasn't met my needs, material or otherwise.  I've learned that I just cannot out-give God, whether it's in time, commitment, finances, or the stewardship of abilities. My unmerited reward is that I have a Father who delights in giving good gifts to His children."

Sasha learned a wonderful lesson.

Where God guides, He provides.

And He honors and rewards our commitment of time and resources for His glory.
